China shows slowest growth since last year due to ongoing real estate problems, with property values continuing to fall

The National Bureau of Statistics reported that the economy grew by 4.6% year-on-year in the third quarter, marking the lowest growth rate since early 2023 when China was emerging from the pandemic. One of the few optimistic trends is the growth in retail sales in September, an indicator of consumer activity, which offers hope for achieving the country’s economic growth targets. The central bank is making new efforts to stimulate the markets and hints at further rate cuts in the coming months.

In recent weeks, authorities have introduced several measures to inject more money into the economy, including rate cuts and easing housing purchase restrictions. The country’s leading banks lowered yuan deposit interest rates for the second time this year as part of efforts to stimulate lending. Recently, the government announced plans to increase loans for unfinished housing projects to over $500 billion, a move aimed at boosting activity in the real estate sector.
